When Your Pump Needs a Rebuild and Which Kit Fixes What

Soft wash pumps rarely fail all at once. They drift. Pressure pulses, oil turns cloudy, output drops a few PSI a week, until one day you're spraying mist instead of mix. Catching the wear early and replacing the right parts is what keeps a $1,500 pump out of the trash. The kits on this page rebuild the components that actually wear on AR45 and Comet P40 diaphragm pumps: the diaphragms, check valves, and O-rings that take the brunt of the sodium hypochlorite running through them.

Identify your pump

Every kit on this page is pump-specific. An AR45 diaphragm won't fit a Comet P40, and vice versa. Check the pump head sticker for the model number before you order. We currently stock OEM kits for the Annovi Reverberi AR45 (specifically the AR45LFP variant): the AR42816 check valve kit and the AR43238 diaphragm kit. If you run a Comet P40, see the Comet P40 Repair Kit, which covers diaphragms, check valves, and O-rings in a single rebuild.

Match the symptom to the part

Different symptoms point to different parts. A sudden drop in pressure paired with milky or whitish oil in the sight glass is the classic sign of a ruptured diaphragm. Water is getting into the crankcase, and you need to stop running the pump before the bearings get damaged. Pulsing or inconsistent flow without an oil change usually means worn or fouled check valves, often from sediment or chemical buildup. If your pump is past its first oil-change interval (300 hours) and showing more than one symptom, plan on a full rebuild and replace diaphragms and check valves together so the pump wears evenly afterward.

Why OEM matters for diaphragm pumps

Aftermarket diaphragms and check valves are easy to find, but dimensional tolerances and chemical resistance vary widely between suppliers. Our kits come direct from Annovi Reverberi and Comet. Same Viton diaphragms, same matched O-rings, same parts that came installed when your pump shipped. Material spec and fitment match the originals, which is what keeps the rebuild lasting and lets the install go in clean without modifying anything.

Which Kit Fixes What

Symptom Likely cause Kit
Sudden pressure loss; oil turns milky white Ruptured diaphragm AR45 Diaphragm Kit (AR43238): 3 Viton diaphragms + 6 O-rings
Pulsing pressure, inconsistent flow Worn or fouled check valves AR45 Check Valve Kit (AR42816): 6 check valves + 6 O-rings
Multiple symptoms past first oil-change interval (300+ hrs) General wear Both kits, full rebuild

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know when my soft wash pump needs a repair kit?

Watch for a sudden drop in pressure, milky or discolored oil in the sight glass, and pulsing or inconsistent flow at the gun. Milky oil means a diaphragm has likely ruptured and water is mixing into the crankcase. Stop running the pump immediately and rebuild before the bearings get damaged. Pulsing flow usually means check valves are worn or fouled with debris.

What's the difference between the AR45 Check Valve Kit and the AR45 Diaphragm Kit?

The check valve kit (AR42816) replaces the six check valves and six O-rings that control flow direction through the pump heads. The diaphragm kit (AR43238) replaces the three Viton diaphragms and six O-rings that actually pressurize the fluid. They fix different failures. Check valves wear from sediment and chemical exposure, diaphragms wear from flex cycles and SH contact. Most rebuilds eventually need both.

Should I replace diaphragms and check valves at the same time?

If your pump is past the first oil-change interval (300 hours) and showing any wear symptoms, yes. Even if only one part is visibly failing, the others are usually close behind. Replacing everything in one session means the components wear evenly going forward, and it saves you from tearing the pump apart twice in three months.

Are these OEM AR45 parts?

Yes. Both the AR45 Check Valve Kit (AR42816) and AR45 Diaphragm Kit (AR43238) are sourced direct from Annovi Reverberi. Same factory parts that came with your pump, same Viton diaphragms, same Viton O-rings, same dimensional tolerances. We don't carry aftermarket knockoffs for the AR45.

Do you have a repair kit for the Comet P40?

Yes. The Comet P40 Repair Kit includes three diaphragms, six check valves, and twelve O-rings, and is compatible with both the old- and new-style P40. It's the same OEM-direct sourcing as our AR45 kits.

How long does an AR45 rebuild kit last?

Lifespan depends on how you run the pump. Daily SH concentration, total hours, water quality, and post-job flushing habits all matter more than any single number. Two habits drive the bulk of it: run fresh water through the pump for at least 5 minutes at the end of every job, and never leave sodium hypochlorite sitting in the pump or hose lines overnight. Running a bleach neutralizer through the system before storage extends seal life further. Skip those steps and you'll be rebuilding more often than the parts should require.
