How to Spec Soft Wash Accessories for Your Rig
"Soft wash accessories" covers a lot of ground: guns, shooter tips, hoses, reels, plumbing kits, fittings, and replacement parts. The right pieces depend on which pump you're running, how your rig is laid out, and whether you're building from scratch or adding to what's already there. Two things keep a rig running without leaks or weak spots: sizing accessories to your pump's GPM and using materials that handle sodium hypochlorite where it sits. After that, pre-spec'd kits make new builds easy, while individual parts cover repairs and one-off additions.
Match the accessory to your pump's GPM
Soft wash pumps in our lineup span 5 to 14 GPM: a 12V pump at 5 GPM, a 12V at 7 GPM, a Comet P40 or AR45 at 11+ GPM, and a Remco Zeus at 14 GPM. Each tier needs differently-sized hoses, fittings, and proportioners. Use 1/2" hose under 7 GPM, 5/8" hose for 7-12 GPM (Comet P40 and AR45 territory), and 3/4" hose for 12+ GPM. Run a hose that's too small and you'll restrict flow; oversize the gun and you'll lose spray distance. Pump-specific plumbing kits (Comet P40, AR45, 12V 5 GPM, 12V 7 GPM, Remco Zeus) take the sizing math out of it.
SH-resistant materials where it counts
Sodium hypochlorite is aggressive. Anything in constant SH contact (pump manifolds, proportioner bodies, valve seats, hose interiors) needs CPVC, polypropylene, stainless steel with Viton seals, or a combination. Standard PVC gets brittle and cracks. Raw aluminum pits. EPDM rubber swells and tears. Brass holds up reasonably well in spots that get flushed clean between jobs (which is why we stock brass quick connects as a budget option), but stainless lasts longer in the same role. Rule of thumb: SH-rated materials anywhere chemical sits, stainless or brass at connection points, and keep standard PVC and raw aluminum off the rig entirely.
Kits vs individual parts
Pump-specific plumbing kits come pre-spec'd with every fitting, clamp, and hose you need to plumb a specific pump, so you don't have to make a second hardware store run or guess at sizes. Individual fittings, valves, and O-rings are there for repairs and one-off builds. If you're plumbing a brand-new pump for the first time, start with the kit. If you're replacing a worn seal or adding a tee to an existing manifold, grab the individual part.

Frequently Asked Questions
What accessories do I need to start soft washing?
At minimum: a soft wash pump, a soft wash gun (or shooter tip), 100-300 feet of chemical-resistant hose, a hose reel, and a plumbing kit to tie it all together. From there, most pros add a proportioner for repeatable mixing, a chemical injector or 3-way tee, and a few backup nozzles. Our Ultimate Residential and Commercial Kits bundle the essentials if you'd rather not piece it together yourself.
Will these accessories work with my Comet P40, AR45, or 12V pump?
Yes. We sell pump-specific plumbing kits for the Comet P40, AR45, 12V 5 GPM, 12V 7 GPM, and Remco Zeus. Each kit includes every fitting, clamp, and hose sized for that pump. Standalone accessories (guns, reels, nozzles, fittings) work with any soft wash pump as long as you match the inlet and outlet thread size.
Why can't I use standard PVC or raw aluminum on a soft wash rig?
12.5% sodium hypochlorite breaks them down. Standard PVC gets brittle and cracks under regular SH exposure; raw aluminum pits and fails; EPDM rubber swells and tears. For anything that holds chemical (manifolds, valve bodies, proportioners, hose interiors), stick with CPVC, polypropylene, stainless steel, and Viton. One brittle PVC fitting in the wrong spot is enough to leak chemical on a customer's lawn.
What size hose reel do I need for soft washing?
Our Aluminum Hose Reel comes in two sizes: the 12" drum holds up to 300 feet of hose, the 18" drum holds up to 450 feet. The 12" is fine for tight trailer builds and smaller rigs. The 18", which uses a 3/4" stainless manifold for better flow, is the right pick for 5/8" or 3/4" hose on Comet P40, AR45, and Remco Zeus setups, and gives you enough length for two-story residential and typical commercial work.
Do you sell replacement parts and repair kits?
Yes. We carry repair kits for the Comet P40, AR45 diaphragm and check valve kits, Viton and black O-rings, and individual fittings. If you can identify the pump or component, we likely have the rebuild part. If you're not sure what you need, send us a photo of the failed part and we'll point you to the right kit.
Stainless steel or brass quick connects on a soft wash gun?
Stainless is the better long-term pick because it shrugs off bleach indefinitely and is rated for higher pressure (our stainless QC sockets are rated to 5,075 PSI vs 3,500 PSI for brass). Brass QCs work and we stock them as a lower-cost option for both pressure washing and soft washing, but they show wear faster under heavy SH service. If you're building a daily-driver commercial rig, go stainless throughout. For a part-time or homeowner setup, brass is fine.
