How to Choose the Right Soft Wash Hose and Reel
Two questions answer most of this. What's your pump actually pushing in GPM, and how long is the run from your reel out to the work? Pick the wrong diameter and you'll choke the pump or lose flow at the gun. Pick the wrong reel and you'll spend ten minutes a job dragging hose across the customer's grass.
Sizing the hose to your pump
Match the hose ID to what the pump is actually putting out, not what the spec sheet says at the top end. A 12V at 5.5 GPM runs fine on 1/2". A Comet P40 or AR45 at 11 GPM is solidly 5/8". Anything pushing 12 GPM or more wants 3/4" or you'll fight backpressure on every long run. Rampage color-codes the hose so you can grab the right coil off the truck without checking the label: yellow's 1/2", blue's 5/8", red's 3/4".
Chemical-rated hose, not box-store hose
Standard rubber hose dies inside a season on a soft wash rig. SH eats it from the inside out and the brass ends rust off in your hand. Every hose in this collection is built for the chemistry. Rampage uses UV-resistant material with stainless steel crimped ends. The clear vinyl braided is reinforced PVC and what most operators use for tank plumbing and chemical injection lines. The crushproof suction hose is what you run from your SH tank into the pump. Brass crimps and zinc-plated fittings don't belong anywhere on a soft wash setup.
Manual reel, electric, or stacked
Under 200 feet of hose and breaking down twice a day, a manual aluminum Bandit reel does the job and costs less. Past 300 feet, hand-cranking adds up and an electric reel earns the difference back in saved labor over a season. The Titan 18" runs off a 12V battery and winds 400 feet of 1/2" hose without you touching it. If you're running both a chemical line and a rinse line on the same rig, the stacking kit lets you mount two reels vertically instead of eating twice the deck space.
Soft Wash Hose Sizing Chart
| Pump flow rate | Recommended hose ID | Color |
|---|---|---|
| Less than 7 GPM | 1/2" | Yellow |
| 7 to 12 GPM | 5/8" | Blue |
| 12+ GPM | 3/4" | Red |
Hose Reel Capacity Chart
| Reel | Capacity | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 12" Aluminum (manual) | Up to 300 ft | 1/2" stainless manifold |
| 18" Aluminum (manual) | Up to 450 ft | 3/4" stainless manifold |
| 18" Titan (electric) | 400 ft of 1/2" or 3/8" hose | 12V motor, 1/2" swivel |
| 22" Aluminum (manual) | Largest in the lineup | 3/4" stainless manifold |
Wind the hose tight and flat and you'll usually fit another 30 to 50 feet beyond what the chart says.

Frequently Asked Questions
What size soft wash hose do I need?
Match it to your pump's GPM. Under 7 GPM goes on 1/2" (most 12V setups). 7 to 12 GPM goes on 5/8" (Comet P40 and AR45 at full throttle, mid-range gas). 12 GPM and up goes on 3/4" (Zeus 24V and bigger gas rigs). If you're sitting between sizes, or you're planning to upgrade the pump inside a year, size up now and save yourself buying twice.
How much hose fits on a hose reel?
A 12" drum takes up to 300 feet of hose. An 18" drum takes up to 450. The Titan 18" electric is built around 1/2" or 3/8" hose and holds 400 feet of either. Tight winding usually adds 30 to 50 feet on top. The 22" Aluminum drum is the biggest reel we stock if you need to fit a long run on a single spool.
Can I just use a garden hose for soft washing?
No. Garden hose isn't rated for 12.5% sodium hypochlorite. The brass fittings corrode out in a few weeks and the ID is too narrow, so you lose pressure across every foot of run. A real soft wash hose runs 300 PSI working pressure with stainless crimped ends built for SH.
Manual reel or electric: which one?
Under 200 feet of hose, manual is fine. Past 300 feet, hand-cranking after every job gets old fast and an electric reel earns the difference back in saved labor. The Titan 18" runs off 12V and winds 400 feet of 1/2" hose without you touching it. If you're doing four or more houses a day, the electric is worth it.
Does the Rampage hose work with my Comet P40, AR45, or 12V pump?
Yes. The 1/2" and 5/8" Rampage ships with stainless steel crimped ends in 1/2" NPT, which thread directly into any standard hose reel swivel and any 1/2" NPT gun. The 3/4" ships uncrimped so you can set your own fitting orientation off the reel. Match the diameter to the pump using the sizing chart above.
What's the stacking kit for?
It mounts one reel on top of another so you can run a chemical line and a rinse line on the same rig without doubling your deck space. The brackets fit most standard hose reels and bolt to truck beds, trailers, or skids. Most operators add it when they go from one hose to two.
