How to Choose Your Comet P40 Setup
Everything here runs on one pump: the Comet P40. What you buy depends on where you're at. Building a rig from parts is a different shopping list than swapping a worn pump, which is different again from buying a setup that's ready to wash.
Pump, sprayer, or full bundle
Already running an engine? The bare P40 pump drops right in. Mount it and plumb it yourself. Want it ready to bolt down, the sprayer comes built on a Honda GX200. And if you'd rather skip the parts hunt, the bundle ships everything but the tanks: the P40 sprayer, proportioner, hose reel, 200 ft of Rampage hose, WaterBoss 750 gun, plumbing kit, and Apple Juice surfactant.
Pull start or electric start
The P40 sprayer and bundle both come pull start or electric start. Electric start costs a little more. What you get for it is push-button mornings instead of yanking a cord at 5am. Same engine, same flow either way.
Plumbing for your mix
There are two ways to mix, and a kit for each. The standard Comet P40 Plumbing Kit feeds a proportioner, so you pull SH, water, and soap from separate tanks. The Batch Mixing kit runs off a single pre-mixed tank. Both are cut to length for the P40 and built from stainless and poly, so the SH doesn't eat them.
Keeping it running
The P40 is a three-diaphragm pump. Diaphragms and check valves wear out. That's the job. The Repair Kit is OEM and fits both the old and new style P40: three diaphragms, six check valves, twelve O-rings. The Oil Kit covers all three oils the sprayer needs: engine, gearbox, and pump. Change them on schedule and the P40 runs for years.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between the Comet P40 pump and the P40 sprayer?
The pump is just the pump head and gearbox. You supply the engine. The sprayer is the same P40 already mounted to a Honda GX200 and ready to plumb. Most guys buying a first rig want the sprayer or the bundle. Get the bare pump when you're swapping out a worn one or building a custom rig.
What GPM and PSI does the Comet P40 put out?
It's rated up to 11 GPM at 300 PSI. For soft washing you dial the pressure down with the built-in regulator. You want flow to carry chemical, not a hard stream that fogs and wastes SH. Tune it to the job in front of you.
Pull start or electric start, which should I get?
Both run the same Honda GX200 and put out the same flow. Electric start costs a bit more and gives you a push-button. Pull start saves you the money if you don't mind a cord. No difference in performance.
What's the CRX225 version of the sprayer?
The standard P40 sprayer runs a Honda GX200. We also offer the P40 with a CRX225 electric-start engine, rated up to 12 GPM. Same P40 pump, different engine, a little more flow. Pick it if you want electric start out of the box and a touch more output.
Which plumbing kit do I need, standard or batch mixing?
Running a proportioner with separate SH, water, and soap tanks? Get the standard Comet P40 Plumbing Kit. Mixing it all in one tank ahead of time? Get the Batch Mixing kit. Not sure yet? The proportioner setup gives you more control on the job.
Will the repair kit fit my older P40?
Yes. The Comet P40 Repair Kit is OEM and fits both the old and new style P40. If your pump is losing pressure or pulsing, worn diaphragms or check valves are usually the cause, and this kit replaces both.
How often does the P40 need an oil change?
The sprayer takes oil in three spots: the engine, the gearbox, and the pump. Follow the engine maker's schedule and change the pump and gearbox oil at the same time. The Oil Kit has all three plus step-by-step instructions.
