How to Choose the Right Soft Wash Proportioner
Picking a proportioner isn't complicated, but it's easy to get wrong. The wrong size starves the pump. The wrong materials let SH eat the springs inside of a season. The wrong mount puts the whole assembly on the floor of your trailer at the first speed bump. Three calls. Get them right and you'll forget the proportioner is there.
Size it to your pump's GPM
The proportioner has to keep up with the pump. Undersize it and you're choking flow back at the manifold instead of letting the pump deliver. Oversize it and the metering valves can't read low draw with any accuracy. Use the chart below to match your pump's GPM to a proportioner size.
UHMWPE block, CPVC valves, stainless springs
The body, the valves, and the springs are all different materials for the same reason: SH eats whatever it's stronger than. The manifold block is UHMWPE plastic, rated to 250 PSI. It holds up under UV better than polypropylene and doesn't crack like acrylic. The metering valves are CPVC with Viton seals, because Viton doesn't swell under chlorine. Check valves are CPVC or polypropylene with stainless steel springs. Brass would corrode out in a season. Most PVC kits on Amazon use brass and skip the seal grade, which is why they fail in months. Ours hold up for years.
Build, kit, or block
Four products in this collection. Pick by what you actually need. Buy the full proportioner if you want it assembled and ready to plumb. Buy the kit if you'd rather spend ten minutes putting it together yourself and keep the $50. The manifold block alone is for operators replacing a cracked block on a rig that's already running. The mounting plate is chemical-grade aluminum, pre-drilled for our proportioner, and bolts the whole assembly to a trailer wall, truck bed, or skid. If you can't tell which one fits, call us. Ten minutes on the phone beats ten weeks of the wrong setup.
Soft Wash Proportioner Sizing Chart
| Pump flow rate | Proportioner size |
|---|---|
| Less than 6 GPM | 1/2" Soft Wash Proportioner |
| 6 to 10 GPM | 3/4" Soft Wash Proportioner |
| 10 GPM and up | 1" Soft Wash Proportioner |
Planning to upgrade your pump in the next year? Size up now. A 3/4" proportioner on a 5 GPM pump works fine. A 1/2" proportioner on a 7 GPM pump is a flow restriction you'll feel at the gun.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a soft wash proportioner and why do I need one?
It's a manifold that pulls SH, water, and surfactant from three tanks, blends them at the ratio you set, and feeds the result to your pump. Without one, you've got two bad options. You can pre-mix everything in a single tank and watch your SH lose strength a little every day it sits. Or you can guess at the gun and get a different mix every house. A proportioner makes the dial repeatable.
What size soft wash proportioner do I need?
Match it to your pump's GPM. Under 6 GPM, run the 1/2". From 6 to 10 GPM, run the 3/4". 10 and up, run the 1". Planning to step up to a bigger pump in the next year? Buy the next size up now. Cheaper than buying it twice.
What's the difference between a proportioner, a manifold block, and a kit?
The manifold block is the UHMWPE body, rated to 250 PSI. Everything else threads into it. The kit ships the block plus the valves and thread tape, all loose, so you can assemble it yourself in about ten minutes and keep $50. The full proportioner is the same parts already put together. Rather wash than build? Buy the assembled one.
Will this proportioner work with my Comet P40, AR45, or 12V pump?
Yes. The proportioners on this page run with the Comet P40, AR45, Zeta PP-42, and any common 12V or 24V soft wash pump. Match the proportioner size to the pump's rated GPM using the chart above and you're good.
How long does a soft wash proportioner last?
Ours hold up to daily 12.5% SH for years. UHMWPE block, CPVC valves, stainless springs. The Amazon equivalents use brass springs and the wrong plastic, which is why they fail in months. Don't leave the system pressurized overnight. Rinse it clean after long days. The seals last longer when you do.
Do I need check valves with a soft wash proportioner?
Yes, and every assembled proportioner and every kit ships with them. Check valves are what keep the three lines (SH, soap, water) from feeding each other when the pump's off. Without them, your SH ends up in your soap tank, your soap ends up in your SH tank, and the dial stops matching the mix at the gun. If you ever build a setup with separate valves, make sure the check valves are CPVC or polypropylene with stainless springs. Brass corrodes.
