The New Comet P40 Pump

First off, I want to give a big shout out to Trudi Weickum from Panhandle Power Wash Supply for being an amazing source for the newest trends and technologies in the pressure/soft washing field.

Trudi recently hosted a Facebook Live with Raj and Pete from Comet Pump, along with Anthony from Southern Surface Cleaning about the NEW COMET P40

Without further ado… Let’s get into it

The Comet P40 has been a reliable pump in the soft washing field for years. It’s known for being durable, easy to work with, and trusted by many in the industry. Now, there’s a new version of the P40 that takes things up a notch. With key upgrades to its design and performance, the new P40 was built to handle more, last longer, and give better results out in the field.

Here’s what makes the new P40 worth a look:

Build and Design Changes

The new P40 fixed a lot of the weak points from the older model. The manifold is now built as one solid piece, which helps stop leaks and makes the pump feel sturdier. The regulator was redesigned too. It now uses a diaphragm instead of a piston, which keeps pressure steady and helps prevent damage. The suction fitting was moved to improve water flow, and the bypass port was upgraded from half-inch to three-quarter-inch so water moves through more easily. One of my favorite parts about the new P40 is they added ports to attach a pressure gauge. This allows you to dial in your pressure and troubleshoot any issues down the road.

Add a pressure gauge to complete your setup:

Performance and Spray Distance

With the right setup, the new P40 can spray around 50 feet. Some users have reported reaching up to 80 feet, but that depends on your engine, nozzle and hose size. One of the setups that helped hit that longer range was a P40 paired with a Honda engine and the red RB65 gun. (See picture below). The red gun supports up to 16 GPM, so it can keep up with the new P40 and help you get the most out of it.

Note:  Your exact spray distance will always depend on how your system is set up.

Electric Motor System and Battery Runtime

The new P40 now works with an electric motor setup. When paired with a VI Power motor and pressure switch, all the flow goes straight to the nozzle instead of looping back into the tank. That makes it more efficient. The VX120 motor has more horsepower than the pump needs, so it runs smooth and steady. It only powers up when you pull the trigger, which saves battery life.

At full power, the P40 paired with the VX120 can run for around 90 minutes. However, since you’re not spraying nonstop, the battery usually lasts much longer during real jobs. You can charge it using a wall outlet, generator, or battery and soon, a truck converter will be available so you can charge while driving.

P40 Summary of Differences from the Old P40

Feature Old P40 New P40
Manifold Had weak spots and multiple parts Now a solid one-piece design, more durable and leak-resistant
Bypass Port ½ inch ¾ inch for smoother water flow
Suction Fitting Opposite side of the discharge Relocated for better fluid movement
Regulator Piston-style (prone to getting stuck) Diaphragm-style for better pressure control and fewer leaks
Motor Setup Gas powered Also compatible with electric motor setup (VI Power or VX120)
Pressure Gauge Not available Pressure gauge port included

If you’re looking for a pump that runs smoother and lasts longer for your jobs, we offer the new Comet P40.
