Product reviews

The Remco 12V Soft Wash Pump moves 5.3 GPM open flow and shuts off at 100 PSI. It's a USA-made, 5-chamber diaphragm pump with Viton valves and a Santoprene diaphragm, so it runs SH up to 12% without the fast wear of cheap RV pumps.

Key Features

  • Viton valves and Santoprene diaphragm: the SH-durable wetted build that holds up to bleach where EPDM and Buna pumps fail fast.
  • 5.3 GPM open flow: a 5-chamber positive-displacement diaphragm for smooth flow at spray pressure, tapering to 1.55 GPM at the 100 PSI shutoff.
  • FLO-IQ dual control: the pressure switch and bypass work together to damp the rapid cycling that kills ordinary demand pumps.
  • Sealed IP65 motor: resists the corrosive chemical mist that destroys open-motor pumps, with heavy 14 AWG leads.
  • Self-priming to 14 ft: pulls the mix from the tank and survives a run-dry when the tank empties.
  • Made in USA, 3/4" quick-attach ports: the retail unit ships with 3/4" QA hose-barb fittings, and the pressure switch and relay are built in.

What's Included

  • Remco 5900-Series SmoothFlo pump (5.3 GPM, 100 PSI)
  • 3/4" quick-attach hose-barb fittings
  • Built-in pressure switch and relay

It runs on 12V DC. Remco specs a Group 24 deep-cycle battery as the minimum, fused at 25 A with 14 AWG leads.

It handles SH up to 12% plus common soft wash chemicals, with on-demand operation: the pressure switch starts the pump when you open the gun and stops it when you close it. Run a 50-mesh inline inlet filter, and when you're pumping SH use a slotted PVC suction filter instead of fine stainless or nylon mesh.

It isn't for potable water, gasoline, petroleum, or flammable liquids. It's intermittent duty, so give it about 15 minutes of cool-down per hour instead of running it flat out. Don't push SH stronger than 12%, since that shortens elastomer life.

How It Works

A sealed 12V motor drives a 5-chamber Santoprene diaphragm, and Viton check valves open and close in sequence so each chamber draws fluid in on the down-stroke and pushes it out on the up-stroke. In a soft wash rig the pump sits after the tank and before the hose. It self-primes the SH and surfactant mix from the tank, up to 14 ft of lift, then pushes it to your gun at up to 100 PSI. The demand switch starts the pump when the gun opens and stops it at the 100 PSI setpoint when the gun closes, and FLO-IQ damps the rapid on/off cycling that wears out ordinary demand pumps.

Flush 1 to 2 tanks of clean water through the pump after every day's use, and never leave SH sitting in it overnight. Under daily SH use, plan on replacing the valves and valve housing about once a year. Most early failures trace back to low voltage, thin or unfused wiring, or rapid cycling, all of which you can design out up front.

Frequently Asked Questions

What battery, fuse, and wire does it need?

Remco specs a 12V Group 24 deep-cycle battery as the minimum, and a lot of operators run a Group 27 to 31 marine battery to get through a full day. Fuse it at 25 A and use 14 AWG leads, up-sized to 12 AWG on long runs. It pulls 19 A max at 100 PSI.

Is it SH-safe, and how long does it last on bleach?

Yes. The Viton valves and Santoprene diaphragm handle SH up to 12%. Flush 1 to 2 tanks of clean water through it daily. Remco recommends replacing the valves and valve housing every 12 months on SH use. Hard daily commercial use often gets about 6 months per pump head, which is a trade estimate, not an OEM figure.

Why does it rapid-cycle at shutoff, and how do I stop it?

Cycling comes from system restriction at or above the shutoff pressure. Fix it by sizing your nozzle tips correctly, opening a bypass or agitation valve, or adjusting the pressure-switch set-screw in small steps. Left uncorrected, the cycling wears out the pressure switch early.
